- ECGC Cares - Christmas Rains of 2013
The torrential rains of Christmas
Eve 2013 brought much sadness to the lives of many Vincentians
as they suffered the loss of lives, extensive infrastructural
and property damage as well as the daily basic conveniences of
living. Many members of our business community rose to the cause
in an unprecedented display of social responsibility and poured
resources into all affected communities. The East Caribbean
Group of Companies, (ECGC), is one of many companies that came
to the assistance of fellow Vincentians.
The management and staff of ECGC
personally delivered over sixty thousand gallons of drinking
water as well as up to 500 bales of packaged flour and over 50
cases of canned food items. In addition, C.K. Greaves & Co.
along with Allan Smith bakeries partnered with ECGC to produce
and deliver in excess of 1,600 bags of “penny” bread to the
length and breadth of the island for several days. The
communities who were recipients of water and the food packages
from ECGC were: Chateaubelair, Rose Hall, Troumaca, Coulls Hill,
Spring Village, Gordon Yard, Walliabou, Keartons, Barrouallie,
Campden Park, Clare Valley, Vermont, Lowmans, Georgetown, Spring
& O’Briens Village, South Rivers, Mannings, Fancy and Magum. The
main focus of the effort was that of ensuring benefits and some
relief to persons who were unable to be placed in shelters.
The Management and staff of ECGC
continues to encourage the affected families and communities to
exercise strength and resilience in the face of these trying
circumstances as we all as a unified nation rally to keep up the
hope that there is a brighter dawn ahead.
